By embracing forward-looking broadcasting and media formats, the DFL continues to make its mark in the sport media world. Multiple awards show that this innovative mindset is recognized far beyond national borders. To direct the attention of young, technically inclined talents to the professional football sector, the DFL, joined by several partners, successfully hosted its first Bundesliga Hackathon. The winners received their awards at the headquarters of EintrachtTech. And: SportsInnovation, the platform for innovation in professional sports, will take place again in March 2026, supported by new strategic partners.

An immersive glimpse into the future
DFL and VfB Stuttgart trial 360-degree live-streaming in the Bundesliga

During the Bundesliga match between VfB Stuttgart and SV Werder Bremen on 13 April 2025, the DFL and VfB Stuttgart jointly tested a new media format, putting the spotlight on the football fan experience of the future: A 360-degree stereoscopic live video signal, generated by three specialised cameras, was transmitted to head-mounted displays as a high-resolution 10k stream at a frame rate of 60 images per second.

SportsInnovation wins new strategic partners
Transform Sports and SportsPro will support the event

SportsInnovation, the DFL’s dedicated sports and technology conference, will take place at the MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA in Düsseldorf again in March 2026, organised by Düsseldorf event specialist D.LIVE/D.SPORTS. New sponsor Transform Sports is an innovation network based in Hamburg, while the media company SportsPro is headquartered in London.

Career options in sports for technology-savvy students

The inaugural Bundesliga Hackathon, initiated by the DFL, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and EintrachtTech, provided technology-savvy university students with insights into potential careers in the football world. The objective of the coding competition was to encourage innovative thinking in the fields of data analytics, Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Computing.

The DFL’s data-supported storytelling concept has won the Sports Technology Award in the Best Data and Analytics for Storytelling category. The jury lauded the compelling visual identity of the approach and its ability to present data in a tangible form.
 
ISC Award for Immersive Reality live stream at Supercup 2024
At the International Sports Convention in London, the DFL’s live stream for the Apple Vision Pro VR device, delivered in 10k resolution during the 2024 Supercup, was honoured with the Sports Tech Company Award for Immersive Reality.
