Body cams and a drone deployed in friendly against Aston Villa
The preparatory phase ahead of a new season is an ideal time to try out new ideas and technologies. When RB Leipzig travelled to USA this summer, it was a perfect opportunity to test a variety of innovative technologies in a live match. In the tête-à-tête with Aston Villa, body cams, a free-flying drone above the pitch and several point-of-view cameras demonstrated their potential for the future.

DFL and Softseed transmit the Supercup to a Mixed-Reality headset
At the 2024 Supercup, the DFL was the world’s first football league to produce a professional match live in 10K resolution for a Mixed-Reality headset, jointly with the start-up Softseed Technologies. Those who tested the application on-site were able to select the angles of several 360-degree cameras individually and experience the virtual, stereoscopic full-circle (3D) view in the best image quality possible. This involved processing of about 1 terabyte of data per minute.
