Inspiring exchange between sports leagues, arenas and clubs, as well as business and science

The core element and special feature of SportsInnovation 2024 will again be the Innovation Games, which will demonstrate the latest technologies and future-oriented visions live on pitch. Plus, there will be two stages where national and international speakers representing sport leagues and arenas, clubs and the business and science communities will share their views and ideas. Presented by Sportec Solutions AG and hosted at the offices of DFL subsidiary Bundesliga International, the event focused on potential uses of data analytics in sport. AI hackathon at Technical University of Munich
Hackathon at Technical University of Munich explores AI-based match analysis

The DFL supports many initiatives to explore potential ways to analyse football matches using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning. As such, the DFL was co-initiator, partner and sponsor of the AI hackathon which took place at the Munich Data Science Institute of Technical University of Munich earlier this year. The winner teams will be presented at SportsInnovation 2024.

First-ever RefCam use in a Bundesliga match
Following the action on the pitch from the referee’s perspective

For the very first time, a referee used a RefCam during an official Bundesliga match. Attached to Daniel Schlager’s headset, the tiny camera captured the events on the pitch from the ref’s angle. The footage will be used in a production for the DFL’s International Product Portfolio (IPP).

Major League Soccer: Sportec Solutions provides VAR technology
Sportec Solutions AG (STS) is deploying its FIFA-approved Video Assistant Referee technology under a multi-year agreement. STS, in which the DFL is a joint-venture partner, is also the Bundesliga’s provider of VAR and goal-line technology.
 
SVG Football Summit in Brussels: Focus on gamification
Dennis Galejski, Head of Product Management at DFL, highlighted how innovative presentation formats and perspectives, improved graphics and enhanced interactive options in football reporting can attract especially younger audiences.

TSG Hoffenheim and the COPA Soccer Training Center in Walnut Creek, California/USA, have signed a cooperation agreement aiming to share innovations and data, and to identify and develop young talent.
 
Bayer 04 Leverkusen uses TGI Sport’s Parallel Ads technology
The LED perimeter advertising system at BayArena shows country-specific advertisements in each target market. Contrary to standard virtual advertising, the cameras transmit on dedicated frequencies.
